NOTE: All facilities that provide food to the public are subject to the regulations set forth in Ordinance 941-22 (restaurants, senior care facilities, daycare, cafeterias, school food service, convenience stores, grocery stores, concession stands). This is an overview of the steps needed to open a Food Establishment in Pittsburg, Texas. Read Ordinance 941-22 for complete details and requirements. Step One: Find a Qualified Location

Must meet city zoning and development standards
Existing building will need building and fire inspections conducted by City Staff
New construction will require a site plan and construction permit
A Certificate of Occupancy will be issued upon building code permitting and inspections
Step Two: Obtain Food Establishment Permitting and Inspections
- Application must be filled out completely
- Pay the associated fee at City Hall
- $300 - Annual
- $175 - Temporary (nor more than 7 days)
- Submit Application through online portal
- Allow 5 days to review the application
- Food Service Inspector will schedule an inspection
- Inspections will be conducted twice a year
Step Four: Open for Business
- Place Food Establishment Certificate in a visible location
- Place Food Inspection Report in a visible location
- Requires two inspections a year by the city food service inspector
- Food Establishment Permits expire on December 31st of each year
- Renew Food Establishment Permit by Jan 1st
- Late Penalty to be assessed for late submissions
