City Attorney

Responsibilities

The City Council appoints the City Attorney and serves as the chief legal advisor to the Mayor, Council, and all City Departments concerning official city business. The City Attorney attends all Council meetings to advise the Council. They act as Parliamentarians and approve all contracts before any City representative's signature.

The City Attorney's office provides civil litigation oversight for the City in state and federal courts and creates and reviews legal documents and forms (bids, contracts, ordinances, etc.). The office drafts ordinances, resolutions, and contracts, prepares written legal opinions and correspondence, and interpret and provides advice concerning the City Charter, City Code, and Texas and Federal Law.
