Laura DeWoody
Owner of Laura DeWoody Jewelers
Pittsburg, Texas

On January 1st of 2023, Laura DeWoody Jewelers celebrated their 30th year of being in business. So, we thought we’d get to know Laura DeWoody a little better and find out what her secret to a long business career has been.
Laura was born and raised in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, moved to Texas, and graduated from Mt. Vernon HS. She then went to Paris Junior College, where they have a very prestige jewelry school. Laura said she didn’t know much about the jewelry industry at the time but was encouraged to take courses to see what it was all about. And to her surprise she LOVED it! From then on there was no looking back.
Laura is an artistic person. She loves to paint and draw. And so, when she found jewelry making, she knew it was for her. Jewelry making gave her the opportunity to be creative and use her imagination. For Laura, no two projects were ever the same. Laura said that when she was a little girl, she used to love to collect precious gemstones, and she had no idea then that gemology would give her a lifelong career.
After Laura graduated from Paris Junior College, she went to work as a bench jeweler for Hoovers Jewelry here in Pittsburg as she continued in the Graduate Gemology program. After her second child she opened a small jewelry booth in Faye Scudders Infant and Gift store, which is where the Flying Cow restaurant is now. That small booth gave her the security she needed to move forward. She was in Faye’s store for three years. In 1996 Laura purchased her current building and opened her very first store and this is where she still is today.
Laura said that she is so thankful for the opportunities that the Lord has given her. After 9-11 she had a space at Canton’s First Monday for over four years selling home decor and jewelry which brought people from all over the tri-state area to come shop at her store here in Pittsburg. After that door closed, Laura was the Texas and Louisiana Pandora Representative for 5 years and traveled around opening Pandora stores in her region as well as being a gold dealer here in her own store. Laura DeWoody Jewelers of Pittsburg, Texas was also featured in The Ophra Magazine in a Pandora advertisement.
Laura DeWoody is a Graduate Gemologist certified by the Gemological Institute of America and a Bench Jeweler. She specializes in custom design pieces and repair. And now after 30 years of being in business for herself, she commented that she feels so blessed to have made a lifetime of customers. Not only do her customers keep coming back, but their children keep coming back. Laura said that her most favorite thing about this industry is that it is a business where you get to celebrate. You get to celebrate achievements, love, and the highlights of people’s lives. You get to be part of everyone’s special moments.
Laura DeWoody Jewelry is located at 130 Quitman Street across from Pendergrass Park and in front of the Hot Links Restaurant. Pittsburg is so fortunate to have such a high-quality jeweler who has withstood the test of time and continues to serve our community.
Congratulations Laura DeWoody for 30 years of being in business, we are so proud of you, and we wish her many more years of success.
