[ARCHIVED] Latest Water Project Almost Complete

In the know graphic

Over the past few years, the Water Department has been tasked with improving water flow within the city.

Meeting with Tim Reynolds, department head of the water department, he summarized what they are doing to achieve this.

“We are replacing the old 2’’ steel line in this neighborhood to increase the water flow and supply fire protection with new fire hydrants.”

“Years ago, when they built these old lines, they didn’t think about fire protection.”

Replacing the lines will increase everyone’s water flow in this neighborhood and the surrounding areas. This particular area was a dead-end line, and in addition to replacing the old steel pipes with 6” PVC lines, they also completed a loop for better water flow.

During the projects, they were able to not disrupt water service in the neighborhoods.

“We actually put the new line in while they are still on the old line. We just lay the new line next to the old line. Once we finish the loop, we switch the connection over.”

Tim gives credit to SGL Utility Contractors for their help with the Water Department on this project.

When asking how the neighborhood handles all this work being done, Tim says, “They have been in general very, very good. You‘d think a lot of folks would be upset cause we are tearing up their yard, but these guys are really good at what they do.”

The city hopes to have this latest project complete by the end of January.
